Understanding and Responding to Societal Demands on Corporate Responsibility (Project RESPONSE) is an extensive study of global Corporate Responsibility that encompassed more than 1000 interviews and 400 surveys over 3 years. It involved a consortium of business schools and multinational corporations. Lawrence helped to co-edit the final report and executive summary and chaired the October 2007 management conference launching its results to corporate and NGO executives.

"The State of Sustainability Communications—a Study of How Effectively the S&P 100 Communicates Sustainability" by Beth Bengtson reviews best/worst practices and proposes some solutions. The article was showcased in leading sustainability news sources as well as Ad Age.

As an adjunct professor, Joanne Lawrence teaches courses in Global Citizenship and Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Innovation at Hult International Business School. The courses address the interrelationship among stakeholders and how to integrate CSR into strategic planning and organizational culture to create competitive advantage.
At INSEAD, Lawrence initiated Strategic Communication, a course introducing communication as a core strategic competence. She addressed how to support major strategic-driven change and build reputations in Strategic Issues in Mergers and Acquisitions, the Multinational Executive Program and special company programs.
Management workshops and seminars have included The Case for Integrating Ethics, Leading Value-Driven Change, Leadership Communication, and Building Sustainable Reputation.
