Joanne T. Lawrence
Joanne Lawrence is a strategically-driven, highly creative, energetic and pragmatic management consultant with more than 25 years of experience in working across all three sectors: multinational corporations, academia and not-for-profits.
She started JT Lawrence + Company in London in 1993, focusing on how to create effective, aligned organizations, particularly those engaged in major change. She has been involved in implementing cross border mergers, strategic alliances, restructuring and outsourcing programs, and has a deep appreciation for how organizations work.
As an Adjunct Professor of Strategy and Management, she has taught within the executive education and MBA programs at INSEAD, the international business school in Fontainebleau, France, where she was affiliated with its Business in Society Centre. She presently teaches courses in Global Citizenship and Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Innovation at Hult International Business School in Cambridge, MA where she also mentors the students’ Sustainability Club.
Prior to starting JTL+Co, Ms. Lawrence had been with UK-based SmithKline Beecham (SB) as Vice President, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations and finally as Vice President of SB’s groundbreaking transformational initiative, Simply Better. Previously Ms. Lawrence held senior communication and investor relations roles at US conglomerate Avco Corporation, IBM, and consultancy Gavin Anderson & Co.
She is a Board Director of the Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy in Boston, serving on its Development and Strategy Committees.
Ms. Lawrence has received numerous awards for outstanding corporate communications and investor relations and as an executive was named one of the Top 20 Business Women in Britain. She is a published author (see “What We Know”) and frequent conference speaker, and interviews have appeared in the Los Angeles Sunday Times, FAST Company magazine, The London Sunday Times, the Financial Times and European Quality Magazine.
Ms. Lawrence has a BA in Literature from Marymount College (now part of Fordham University), an MA in Corporate and Political Communication from Fairfield University and an MBA from the Stern Graduate School of Business, New York University.
An American citizen, she also holds U.K. permanent residency.
